Director, Events and Meetings – National Health Council

Created by and for patient organizations 100 years ago, the National Health Council (NHC) brings diverse organizations together to forge consensus and drive patient- centered health policy. We promote increased access to affordable, high-value, sustainable health care. Made up of more than 140 national health-related organizations and businesses, the NHC’s core membership includes the nation’s leading patient organizations. Other members include health-related associations and nonprofit organizations including the provider, research, and family caregiver communities; and businesses representing biopharmaceutical, device, diagnostic, generic drug, and payer organizations.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director, Events and Meetings, oversees three marquee events annually and numerous smaller meetings – both virtual and in-person. This individual will be involved in all aspects of the NHC’s member services work to ensure our events and meetings reinforce value to our members and enhance the NHC’s reputation. The ideal candidate is passionate, creative, and detail oriented, and dedicated to providing superb member service at every turn. This role demands expertise in all aspects of event, meeting, and conference planning, including cost containment, agenda planning, speaker identification and management, venue scouting, digital and physical equipment logistics, in-person and online room setup, and a wealth of best practices. The successful candidate will interact daily with NHC senior leadership, NHC member organization leaders, vendors and other members of the public.

Background in a relevant field: Event Planning (Virtual and In-Person), Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, Project Management will contribute to success in this position.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of event planning meeting strict deadlines and budget demands
  • Nurture and build relationships with vendors, venues, and other industry contacts to craft and implement creative and logistical aspects of all events
  • Stay current, and often ahead of the curve, on event planning, design, and production trends, proactively identifying and solving operational challenges
  • Establish standard procedures and train staff to execute them
  • Comply with legal, insurance, health and safety regulations at all times

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 5 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated event and meeting planning/management experience, including at least one-year experience with leadership responsibility and decision-making authority.


  • Awareness of the sectors represented in NHC membership
  • Superior organizational skills with ability to juggle multiple projects
  • Experience with vendor management, including negotiating and reviewing contract terms
  • Computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Dynamics, Teams; Cvent; Zoom), including experience working from home/telecommuting
