President and Chief Executive Officer, National Psoriasis Foundation

The National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) is the world’s largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Founded in 1967 as the Psoriasis Society of Oregon, NPF now has two offices (Portland, Oregon and D.C./Alexandria, Virginia) and has grown to become the leading patient advocacy group for the over 8 million people in the United States who have psoriasis, a third of whom will develop psoriatic arthritis. In recent years, NPF has invested more than $20 million in research activities and, through the leadership and innovation of their national Board and 70 staff members, seeks to fulfill their mission of driving efforts to cure psoriatic disease and improve the lives of those affected.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

The President and CEO will have responsibility for the short- and long-term success of NPF. Working in partnership with the 17-member Board of Directors, this executive will provide leadership to pursue the mission and strategic vision of NPF. They will provide direction of internal and external policy and program development and oversee NPF operations. The President and CEO will serve as the chief spokesperson for NPF and as primary liaison with outside stakeholders. They will also primarily be responsible for developing revenue sources to support approved programs as well as strategic corporate partnerships and alliances. The successful candidate will report to the Board of Directors. The position will be based in NPF’s metro Washington, DC (Alexandria, Virginia) office. The successful candidate will periodically spend time with employees based in NPF’s Portland, Oregon, office as well as field-based volunteers in metro markets around the country.


Candidates for the President and CEO role should have a minimum of 15+ years of experience in positions of increasing authority with demonstrable growth or impact with a not-for-profit or mission-driven organization, preferably in the healthcare space and ideally with organizations focusing on auto-immune diseases. They should have proven success in growing an organization and contributing to its financial stability. The President and CEO must be comfortable with fundraising activities and engaging major donors, have experience identifying revenue sources and be able to build and maintain donor relationships. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the fundamental principles of managing a charitable organization and working knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management. Candidates should also have an understanding of the healthcare landscape including federal government programs, agency missions, national policymaking processes and key players, industry and commercial environments, and corporate partnerships. They should also have experience working effectively with a committed and involved board of directors and other key volunteers. The successful candidate should have outstanding leadership and communication skills that that can be tailored to small or large diverse groups. Candidates should have unwavering integrity, the highest level of personal and professional ethics, and a passion for the mission of NPF.

Candidates should have an undergraduate degree; an advanced degree such as an MBA, MS, or related graduate degree is preferred.
