The National Health Council (NHC) convened the 2026 Science of Patient Engagement Summit, held May 11–12 at Amazon HQ2 in Arlington, VA, which brought together patients, caregivers, advocates, researchers, clinicians, and other health-sector leaders around the theme Turning Evidence into Impact. Across two days of keynotes, panels, discussions, and poster presentations, participants explored how patient engagement can strengthen research, clinical trials, care delivery, technology, communications, and policy.

Collectively, the speakers emphasized that meaningful patient engagement begins before major decisions are made, addresses barriers that can limit participation, and gives patients and caregivers genuine influence over priorities and solutions. This report captures key insights from the 2026 Summit and highlights opportunities to translate patient engagement evidence into practice.
