Joseph Ortega is the Director, Operations. He joined the National Health Council in November of 2019. He is also an English for Speakers of Other Languages instructor at Casa de Maryland, in Silver Spring, where he has taught for 12 years.
Ortega joins the NHC after serving as Operations Manager for FasterCures, a Center of the Milken Institute, for the past 12 years. Ortega also has worked at UnidosUS, (formerly the National Council of La Raza); the Association of Fundraising Professionals; the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; the office of the Honorable Xavier Becerra, (CA-31); and La Opinión, the nation largest Spanish language daily newspaper.
Ortega studied political science and criminal justice at the California State University, Los Angeles, and biological sciences and chemistry at the University of California, Irvine, where he was a Research Fellow at the Howard Hughes Undergraduate Biological Sciences Research and Training Program.
