GUEST BLOG: Recognizing National Infertility Awareness Week®, April 19-25

By: Danielle Melfi, CEO, RESOLVE: The National Infertility and Family Building Association

If your constituents fall between the ages of 25 to 45, there’s a 1 in 6 chance they will face infertility. And if they’re also managing a disease or condition that affects their reproductive health, those odds are even higher. They need to know that they are not alone.

At RESOLVE: The National Infertility and Family Building Association, we are a community of people who know this path—its heartbreak, its frustration, its hope, and its fierce resilience. National Infertility Awareness Week® (NIAW), founded by RESOLVE in 1989, exists because our stories, experiences and voices deserve to be seen, heard, and supported.

Every April, people across the country—patients, partners, providers, advocates, and allies—come together for NIAW to change the conversation around infertility and push for access to all family building options. Our needs are tied to complicated health care policy, reproductive rights, and deeply entrenched public opinions about who has a right to build a family. That’s why each year we work to make NIAW bigger, louder, and more impactful.

NIAW exists to break the silence. To push back against the stigma, shame, and outdated myths that still surround infertility. It’s a time when our community unites to educate others, correct misinformation, and remind the world that infertility does not discriminate—it can affect anyone, at any age, in any relationship, from any background.

Infertility can quietly take over your identity. It can make you feel defined by appointments, cycles, and setbacks. This year’s “More Than” theme is about reclaiming the fuller picture of who you are:

    • More than a diagnosis. Infertility is something happening to you, not something that defines you.
    • More than the pressure to be strong. You’re allowed to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or uncertain — your emotions are valid.
    • More than silence. Sharing your story, even privately, can transform isolation into connection and solidarity.

“More Than” is also a reminder of the work left to do. Patients deserve more insurance coverage, more support, and more access. That’s why this year RESOLVE is launching our first ever Month of Action in May because we need more people to join the movement to fight for family building care.

If your community is impacted by infertility, we invite you to join us. Visit resolve.org/monthofaction to find resources for your members or stakeholders: educational webinars, community potlucks, policymaker outreach, and more.
