Senior Manager, Communications, National Health Council

Location: This position is in Washington, DC. The National Health Council supports a hybrid workplace. Employees must be able and willing to work on site at the NHC offices at least two days per week.
Reports to: Senior Vice President of Communications & Governance
Wage Category: Starting salary range begins at $80,000 commensurate with experience.

Made up of more than 170 national health-related organizations and businesses, the NHC’s core membership includes the nation’s leading patient organizations. Other members include health-related associations and nonprofit organizations including the provider, research, and family caregiver communities; and businesses representing biopharmaceutical, device, diagnostic, generic drug, and payer organizations.

The Senior Manager, Communications captures the National Health Council’s and our members’ stories by writing and editing content and managing projects across a variety of platforms and formats.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Primary author of three NHC newsletters; consistently thinks of ways to revamp existing content to make it more engaging to NHC stakeholders and the general public.
  • Collaborate with policy, programs, and membership teams to write and/or edit content such as comment letters, white papers, research reports, and blog posts; work with teams to create marketing content for events.
  • Develop content and manage projects including:
    • Meeting/webinar/event promotional content, materials, scripts, and reports;
    • Website copy and blog posts; create and manage monthly blog calendar;
    • Membership and development collateral;
    • Op-eds, press releases, and letters to the editor; and
    • Other communications materials as needed.
  • Lead content development and production of NHC Putting Patient First™ Podcast.
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager, Digital Media in creating engaging social media content, including infographics, posts, videos, etc.; weave social media content into other public facing content; ensure digital content aligns with other content being released.
  • Assist SVP, Communications & Governance with projects to enhance and protect the NHC’s brand and reputation; work with internal teams during rebranding efforts.
  • Manage and engage NHC members through the NHC Communications Affinity Group including planning meetings and increasing participation from NHC members.
  • Collaborates with all NHC staff and interacts with members at all levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a keen attention to detail. Proficiency in AP and Chicago style and strong business writing skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PPT) and SharePoint; previous experience with Microsoft CRM and MailChimp
  • Works well with others as part of a collaborative team but is also self-motivated with the ability to work proactively and independently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work well under
  • At least five to seven years of experience in writing and editing, preferably translating complex information for a lay audience.
  • Experience in health policy communication a plus.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English, creative writing, or related field.
