The 2022 National Health Council (NHC) Health Leadership Conference (HLC) is in the books! More than 125 NHC members, patient group and nonprofit Board members, event sponsors, and speakers, reconnected in Coral Gables, FL, May 3-5.

Attendees enjoyed several opportunities for in-person networking, whether formally during the Opening Night “Family Reunion” and Partner Networking receptions, or informally between sessions or over a meal.

“Great opportunity to learn from top leaders in nonprofit management about culture, structure, diversity, and relationship building through leadership.”

Session highlights included:

  • Opening keynote speaker Dr. Dara Richardson-Heron, who asserted health equity has still not been actualized, and the root causes of health disparities include racism and discrimination, and system and policy, population and community, health care system and organizational, and individual levels.
  • General session speaker Dr. Elizabeth Fowler, who articulated CMMI’s five goals: driving accountable care, advancing health equity, supporting innovation, increasing affordability, and partnering to achieve system transformation.
  • A lively “Show and Tell,” where attendees shared success stories, “ah ha” moments, emerging best practices, pitfalls, partner opportunities, and other news that informed and inspired.
  • Closing keynote speaker Dr. Daniel Kraft, who advocated that patients and patient groups need to be more continuous with our personal health data and be more proactive than reactive to anticipate diseases and treatment options.
  • And so much more!

“The greatest value of the conference was the unique opportunity to compare notes with how other organizations are handling different issues.”

The Conference’s full summary and presentation slides can be found on the NHC website. Don’t forget to save the date for the 2023 Health Leadership Conference, February 8-10. More information, including the location, will be announced soon.
