Putting Patients First (PPF) Blog: What brought you to the National Health Council?

I’m currently pursuing my master’s in public health. I knew that I wanted my next role to be with an organization that had a real commitment to health equity. I’m so impressed by the policy and programmatic work of the NHC and the ways the organization is proactively addressing health equity. It’s humbling to be a part of a group doing so much positive work for patients and their caregivers.

PPF Blog: What are some tasks or other work you’ve done that will help you in this new role?

I have been in association management for almost 20 years working in a variety of industries, from arts and culture and financial services to travel and tourism and health care, always focused on marketing, membership, and partnership activities. I’ve worked on strategic partnerships that were focused on obesity, nutrition, cancer screening, and vaccinations while in health care to cite a few. To me, it’s such a great feeling when you can find partners to collaborate with on a shared vision and create something new and meaningful together.

PPF Blog: What’s your favorite thing about working at the NHC so far?

The people. The NHC has a wonderful and diverse team of smart people. The entire team has been so welcoming and generous in sharing their time and getting me up to speed.

PFF Blog: Tell us something about you that’s not on your resume. What do you like to do outside of work?

I love to travel and to experience new cultures. I’ve visited 49 of the 50 states in the U.S. and 26 foreign countries to date. Also, my husband was in the military and stationed around the world before we met. He’s a huge history buff and so I particularly enjoy going back to the places where he lived, hearing his stories about the culture, and seeing the places through his eyes.
