Patient advocacy organizations work tirelessly to educate, promote, advocate, and raise awareness and funding for their causes. Awareness months give us the opportunity to rally around a common objective and show these organizations how much we appreciate their work. Here’s how you can help advance these groups’ missions and spread awareness.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
The American Cancer Society takes a comprehensive approach to combating childhood cancer by funding research and advocating for government policies that include making it easier for all children to get quality care and providing support for patients and their families.
Ways to get involved:
- Read the ACS Pediatric Care Brochure.
- Share stories of hope from childhood cancer survivors on social media.
National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
About one in five children in the United States has obesity. National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month provides a chance to learn more about this serious health condition. While there is no simple solution, there are many ways communities can support children with their journey to good health.
Ways to get involved:
- Read information from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to learn more.
- Post on social media to raise awareness about childhood obesity.
Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s September Awareness campaign is focused on earlier awareness of symptoms, genetic predisposition, and the lack of an early detection test. With almost 80 percent of women diagnosed in the advanced stages of ovarian cancer, when the prognosis is poor, we know that more needs to be done to spread awareness of this horrible disease that will take the lives of more than 14,000 women this year.
Ways to get involved:
- Add Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month to your Facebook profile picture. Read the instructions here.
- Register for a walk to end ovarian cancer.
- Use the hashtag #KnowOvarian all month long to raise awareness.
National Suicide Prevention Week (September 8-14)
