NHC Launches New Three-Year Strategic Plan in 2019

01/16/2019

The National Health Council has launched a new strategic plan for 2019-2021 that outlines our goals, strategies, and anticipated outcomes in the focus areas of public policy, membership, and strategic communications.

The strategic plan was developed by the Strategic Planning Task Force that included several members of the NHC Board of Directors and was led by our 2019 Board of Directors Chairperson Steven Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation.

“Steve is a passionate leader in the patient advocacy community and shaped the development of our 2019-2021 Strategic Plan,” said Marc Boutin, JD, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Council. “His vision, in addition to the excellent slate of new and returning Board members, will enable NHC to promote access to affordable, sustainable, high-value care.”

The 2019-2021 Public policy strategies include: identify broad systemic health policy needs, engage member organizations to prioritize specific public policy issues, and address the rapid acceleration of barriers to access and cost shifting to patients.

Our Membership goal is to grow an engaged, patient-centered, multi-stakeholder membership that is representative of the health ecosystem, and strategies include maintaining VHAs as core members and decision makers in a multi-stakeholder organization.

New to the strategic plan in 2019, our Strategic Communications goal is to enhance NHC brand awareness and engagement among key audiences. Read the full plan.

Each year, a work plan, developed by NHC leadership, membership, and staff, will accompany the strategic plan. The work plan ensures we meet the 2021 outcomes.
