Register Now! NHC Virtual Science of Patient Engagement Symposium:  Including More Voices: Improving Diversity and Representativeness

The NHC Science of Patient Engagement Symposium is coming up in less than two weeks! Our theme this year is focused on diversity and representativeness in engagement and will be held virtually for the first time on September 29 and 30. 

You can register now for the Symposium, which promises a unique opportunity to engage with medical, scientific, and research leaders from patient groups, nonprofit health organizations, government, and industry.  

Day One will begin with A Patient Perspective from DeJuan Patterson, MPA, Senior Consultant, The Bridge Advisory Group, and Consultant to the PATIENTS Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Next, our Keynote, Ken Frazier, JD, CEO & Chairman of Merck & Co, Inc., will deliver opening remarks.  

Other sessions on Day One include:  

  • A Spotlight on the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials (MRCT) Center 
  • What Are Patient Organizations Doing to Enhance Inclusion in Research & Outreach? 
  • FDA Oncology Center of Excellence Initiatives to Advance Patient Engagement 

We will wrap up Day One with a virtual networking reception that includes a DC-themed, cocktail/mocktail demonstration by a DC-based mixologist.  

Day Two will kick off with an Update from PCORI‘s Lisa Stewart, MA, Senior Engagement Officer. Day Two also includes sessions on: 

  • Can Artificial Intelligence (AI) Findings Be Flawed Due to Biased Data?  
  • A Blueprint for Effective Health Outreach to Vulnerable Communities: Meeting Patients Where They Are 
  • An Update from the NIH Office of Minority Health 

An optional, round-robin – “Coffee Chat with the Experts” – session will be held on the morning of day two. During this 45-minute session there will be three, 15-minute opportunities to attend three different “chats” with experts from patient groups and industry. So, bring your morning coffee (or tea) and make the rounds!
