Poster Session
The National Health Council invites you to join us for the 2025 Science of Patient Engagement (SPES) Poster session. The event brings together organizations working at forefront of patient engagement to discuss the most pressing issues facing patients, their families and caregivers.
When: May 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: National Press Club: 529 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20045
Eligibility, Review Criteria, and Participation Requirements
National Health Council (NHC) patient organization and partner members are invited to submit an abstract for the poster session. The poster session seeks to highlight patient engagement centered research and initiatives relevant to artificial intelligence (AI) and MedTech innovation in medicine. Ten projects will be selected for a poster presentation by a panel of expert judges prior to the SPES Meeting in Washington, DC and notified of their acceptance to present. At least one representative of each accepted submission team must attend the symposium in Washington, DC to present their material to attendees. If accepted, specifics on poster format guidelines will be provided to the presenters at a future date. Posters will be printed by the National Health Council for the symposium.
NHC Science of Patient Engagement Abstract Submission
The NHC Science of Patient Engagement Poster Session will take place on Wednesday May 7, 2025, from 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Abstracts are due April 4, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Presenters will be notified of their acceptance by April 18, 2025.
Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and should generally include the following:
1. A Title
2. Introduction / Background
3. Goals / Hypotheses / Questions
4. Methods / Strategies / Activities
5. Results / Findings / Lessons Learned
6. Conclusions / Implications / Next Steps
Submissions must include a brief response to the question, “How would you describe the importance of your work to someone with no background in patient engagement?” The NHC uses the following definition for patient engagement in research: “The active, meaningful, and collaborative interaction between patients and researchers across all stages of the research process, where research decision making is guided by patients’ contributions as partners, recognizing their specific experiences, values, and expertise.”1
NHC member patient groups, partners of patient groups, and non-NHC member nonprofits are eligible to apply. The NHC will consider research projects, initiatives, and original research that is related to patient engagement/patient-centered research in medicine, MedTech, and AI. We understand that these areas of work and research are new to many. Therefore, we do encourage abstract submission in other areas in patient engagement with the caveat that those in medicine, MedTech, and AI will be given priority. The work/project for the abstract being submitted should have been done within the last 3 years. This can be work that was previously presented or published. Only one submission per organization will be considered.
Please note that no abstracts will be accepted after the submission deadline has passed. After submitting your abstract, you should receive an email by April 7, 2025, indicating the submission was successful. If you do not receive this email, your submission did not go through, and you should contact the email below. Once accepted, the final posters are due to the NHC by April 30, 2025. If you have any questions, please direct them to NHCprograms@nhcouncil.org
