Patient Groups: Fundraising During the COVID-19 Crisis

04/10/2020

This is the second in a series of blog post focusing on how the current climate is impacting patient groups’ fundraising efforts. Other posts in the series will focus on day-to-day operations and building community.

When it comes to fundraising, get creative. In-person galas, receptions, races and other fundraisers are simply not possible. Try to think of activities people can do at home to raise support.

  • Run a virtual race or walk. People can still go outside in many places. Use a hashtag, encourage people to share photos, and post their progress. Supporters can “stay healthy” during the quarantine and support their favorite cause with pledges, a total gift, or pledges per mile.
  • Hold a fundraiser selling a product that people can use now – such as pizza or meal delivery – where you get a percentage of sales. One school held a fundraiser recently with takeout orders at a restaurant serving people at a drive thru.
  • Set up an Amazon wish list for things your organization needs. People can show their support by buying the items and shipping them directly to your office.
  • Maximize your use of Facebook fundraising tools. Encourage Facebook birthday fundraisers or a campaign for a specific need your organization has. Set a goal. Offer prizes for participation, like pizza or takeout delivery vouchers.

Remember, you are not in this alone. For more information and resources for patient groups, visit our COVID-19 issue page.
