Get to know Vitu Ngwira, Manager of Finance & Administration, who began working at the National Health Council (NHC) in April 2023.
Putting Patients First (PPF) Blog: Why did you want to work for the NHC?
Having friends and family with chronic diseases and disabilities gave me a front row seat of the health care system’s inequities and challenges. Joining the NHC, an organization whose sole focus is to provide a united voice for the inequities, education, and diversity in the health care system for people living with chronic diseases and disabilities, was an easy decision to make.
PPF Blog: What’s your favorite thing about working at the NHC?
The people here. Everyone at the National Health Council is dedicated to the mission of providing a united voice for people living with chronic diseases and disabilities and their family caregivers. This passion translates into the culture of the organization. The NHC’s team members are willing to jump in and assist when needed and are always willing to teach, listen, and learn.
PPF Blog: What are some of the tasks or other work you’ve done that will help you in this new role?
I have always been in finance; I once worked as an auditor and accountant. These occupations require transparency, attention to detail, and understanding of numbers — skills that will be utilized in my new role as Manager of Finance & Administration.
PFF Blog: Tell us something about you personally. What do you like to do outside of work?
I love reading. Sci-fi and fantasy fiction novels are my home away from home. I also enjoy traveling and hiking, which includes exploring local water bodies and parks with family and friends.
